We had a great week of wrestling, especially at the Eastview tournament. Congratulations to all the wrestlers who performed well at the tournament. It was a real pleasure for me to see the team support each other, behave like gentlemen and ladies, and wrestle with confidence and pride. Thanks for sharing your great kids with the Shakopee Wrestling Program! It is a pleasure working with them.
On Feb. 5th we have our TakeDown Cancer Event with Wayzata and Eagan. We are raising funds to help the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund.
I attached a form that I gave to kids last week. I am worried they didn’t bring it home so I am sending it via email as well.
We are asking kids to try to collect $50 in donations. If they can reach that goal, I will give them a pair of TakeDown Cancer Nike socks. Pretty cool socks that they can wear at our TDC event.
I am very passionate about TakeDown Cancer (my wife is a breast cancer survivor) and would like our event to be as profitable as possible for Randy Shaver’s foundation.
We missed a dual vs Farmington on Thursday. As of right now we will be making that up on Saturday, Jan. 31st at Shakopee High School.
We have our youth tournament on that day (all members of the team will be working) and plan to wrestle Farmington in the early evening after the youth tournament is over. There are a couple of loose-ends that need to be tied up before I can confirm this, but it looks like that’s when we will have the conference dual made up. That does add one more weigh in to worry about for the varsity kids, but we don’t have any other options right now.
The Shakopee Mat Club is looking for an announcer for our youth tournament on Jan. 31st. Anyone willing to announce? Pretty easy job.
Monday –Kids do not have school (teachers do) so we will have practice at the regular time (3:15). Captains should be there at 2:45 to mop mats.
This is a mandatory practice. If your son needs a ride please try to arrange one with someone else.
Youth practice at WEST at 6:30-8:00 PM.
Wednesday-Regular practice with selected challenges. Wrestlers must inform coaches on Monday or Tuesday if they want to challenge.
Thursday-HOME meet vs Eastview. This is Senior/Parent Night.
Weigh in at 4:30, JV wrestles at 5:30, Varsity at 7:00. There is a one pound allowance.
Friday- We have a triangular at New Prague with Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial.
I do not have information about what time we will wrestle, but matches start at 5:00. I will send information when I receive it.
There will be a two pound allowance.
Saturday we have the 9th grade and under section meet at Hastings. Coach Brown will get me the information and I will forward it to the 9th graders and their parents.
Everyone else has a Saturday off!!!!!!
Monday Jan. 26th No school for kids, but we do have mandatory practice.
Thursday, Jan. 29th we wrestle at Apple Valley.
Saturday, Jan. 31st Youth Tournament at Shakopee High School. High school kids work the mats (scorers, refs, table workers). This date is also the 9th and under state tournament for those who qualify.
Thursday, Feb. 5th we have a home Tri vs Wayzata and Eagan. This is our TakeDown Cancer Event. I will be forwarding more information about ordering shirts soon. All kids will receive a TakeDown Cancer shirt if they work the Youth Tournament. Parents will be able to order one online.

Thursday, Feb. 12th we will likely be hosting the first round of Varsity team sections.
Saturday, Feb. 14th will be the section 2AAA team semi-finals and finals.
The Section 2AAA championship team will qualify for the state tournament on Feb. 26th in St. Paul.
We will have team pictures on Monday, Feb. 16th. All members of our team should plan to attend at 3:15-stats, cheerleaders, wrestlers, managers, coaches.
Friday/Saturday Feb. 20-21 is the individual Section 2AAA tournament at Bloomington Kennedy. The top two wrestlers from each wt. class qualify for the state tournament on Feb. 27-28.
I believe that’s it for now. Sorry for the length of the email.
