Shakopee wrestling wins the Mike Fasnacht Memorial

The Shakopee Saber varsity traveled to Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton High School for the 2019 Mike Fasnacht Memorial.

The individual tournament is an annual event held in remembrance of 1st Lieutenant Mike Fasnacht who was killed in action by an IED while serving in Iraq outside of Tikrit in 2005.

The Sabers led the team scoring with 229.5 followed by second place Minneota with 161 and led all teams with 10 individual finalists.

Individual champions for the Sabers were Pierson Manville (106), Paxton Creese(113), Ben Lunn(120), Tyler Jones(126), Conner Raines(160), Joey Johnson(182).

Runner ups were Seth Bakken, Brandon Kidd, Jack Casey and Calvin Hartman.

DJ Smith took 3rd while John Kroll and Sam Treml each placed 5th.

BY THE NUMBERS

Seventh grader Pierson Manville led the way with 4 wins.

Sophomore Joey Johnson won all 3 of his matches by fall in the first period.

Unranked sophomore Seth Bakken earned a 5-1 decision win over #4 @126 1A Seth Goetzinger of Chatfield.

NEXT UP

Shakopee finishes up their regular season schedule this Thursday February 7th at section 1AAA Farmington in a South Suburban Conference matchup. Shakopee will be looking to finish their dual season undefeated in the MSHSL and earning their third consecutive South Suburban Conference Championship. Junior varsity starts at 5:30 pm followed by Varsity under the lights at 7:00 pm.
